Facilities
In aerospace, facilities include our own airport, a Jetstream 'flying laboratory' for teaching; 11 wind tunnels, flight simulators, and the large cabin evacuation facility modelled on the 'double-decker' Airbus A380.
Other industrial-standard facilities include a 250 bar hyperbaric welding facility (unique among universities in Europe); high-performance superabrasive machining equipment; impact test rigs, full-scale compressors, an engine transmission laboratory and stae of the art nanotech clean laboratories.
On the Silsoe campus are new, purpose-built molecular biology, electrochemistry and analytical laboratories, and the national soil dynamics laboratory with the largest soil flume in Europe.
At Shrivenham, facilities are appropriate to the College's role as the UK's centre for academic teaching and research for UK and overseas armed forces.
Student life
Wherever you study at Cranfield, you will be within easy reach of London, but without its high cost of living.
As an exclusively postgraduate campus, Cranfield provides a very distinctive and culturally diverse environment, focused and business-like, yet friendly, in which to live and work. Students living on campus can walk to their lectures in minutes, while their children take the bus directly from the campus to schools in nearby villages.
On-campus accommodation, both for single students and those with families, means no inner-city commuting, free car parking and easy access to our extensive sports, leisure and social facilities.
Sports facilities on site combine with some of the best facilities in Britain close at hand – the National Hockey Stadium, Table Tennis Centre, Athletics Stadium, Gymnastics Centre and National Badminton Association, plus the Milton Keynes 'Xscape' indoor ski-slope, to name but a few.
